Healthy Corner Stores Pilot Project

The Get Fresh! Healthy Corner Store Initiative in Richmond, Virginia was established in 2012 by a dynamic collaboration of local philanthropic, government, nonprofit, and health partners concerned that Richmond City ranks as the largest food desert in the country among cities of its size. The coalition includes the Richmond City Health Department, Virginia Community Capital, Councilwoman Cynthia Newbille, Tricycle Gardens, the Bon Secours Health System, the Community Foundation of Richmond, Neighborhood Resource Center, Shalom Farms, and IPHI.452415623

IPHI has been an active member of Get Fresh! since February 2013, providing assistance in the development of local polices to support access to healthy food. This technical assistance stems from our Healthy Eating, Active Living (HEAL) Cities and Towns Campaign. We are also active members of the evaluation committee, which is developing and implementing the evaluation of the Get Fresh! pilot efforts and program expansion across the East End of Richmond.
