Enhance your skills and knowledge as a CHW through a series of engaging sessions led by subject matter experts. The CHWs Community of Practice series will create a dynamic platform for sharing experiences, insights, and best practices to better serve our communities.

If you have a real-life case study from your experiences as a CHW, submit it here to allow peers to learn and discuss it during the sessions. The case study will guide the topics and discussions, offering valuable insights to fellow CHWs.

In September, IPHI’s Community Health Worker (CHW) Academy will host the CHWs’ Pathways to Success Conference and Career Fair. This event is intended to support the professional development of CHWs in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia regions, in collaboration with the health departments of those areas.  

This event will offer workforce development activities, address identified knowledge gaps/specific CHW needs, and provide valuable networking opportunities.  The career fair will feature companies and organizations looking to hire CHWs, as well as on-site networking and interviews.

Are you an active member of your community? Are you looking to improve the health of your community? Have you considered becoming a community health worker (CHW)? 

If you answered yes to any of these questions, this focus group is for you! Join this community member focus group on April 17 or April 18 from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.

Community Health Worker (CHW) Academy Applications Open 3/20/2023 – 4/28/2023

CHWs: A Critical Component of the Clinical Team Flyer

The CHW Academy’s applications are now open! The training will run from March 20 through April 28.


Who?

  • New and existing CHWs in the District of Columbia and neighboring counties in suburban Maryland and northern Virginia.

What?

  • A free training program for persons interested in becoming CHWs, and for existing CHWs, free continuing education training.

Where?

  • Learn online and in-person

Why?

  • This training will prepare CHWs with the core skills to be strong in their roles in communities, in social service and health settings.

Schedule

  • March 20 – April 28
  • 3.5 hours a day
  • Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon

IPHI offers continuing education training sessions for Virginia community health workers (CHWs)! The training sessions are held on the last Wednesday of each month, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The continuing education training sessions are not part of a required series. However, certified CHWs may count these courses toward CHW continuing education credits for re-certification.
